The industry veteran has delivered the opening keynote at Brighton's Develop conference
Lemmings and GTA designer/founder of Realtime Worlds David Jones has delivered a presentation titled 'Online functionality for your next game? Why not go 100% online!' to kick off the Develop conference.
During the wide-ranging look at the industry and his own career, Jones set out his own vision for games development, also citing classic titles as a legitimate source of inspiration:
“The police chase you like the ghosts in Pac Man”
"My first game Menace was a shooter - plagiarizing was fine as you learn from the masters," The developer also pointed out a surprising similarity between one of his best known games and a retro arcade classic.
"People said to me that GTA was just like Pac Man - he eats the dots, while you drive over the dots in GTA. The police chase you like the ghosts in Pac Man."
Jones went on to discuss the reasons for moving into the MMO arena with upcoming game APB, as well as the challenges involved in creating a fully customisable online action title.
Look out for our update on APB shortly.
