Dragon Age could spell new age

Bioware's Dr Greg Zeschuk has stated that he would like user-generated content produced using the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins to be available for players of the console version to download.

Technically, Zeschuk says this would be pretty simple but, on the Xbox side of things at least, there might be obstacles. Sony and Microsoft have very different policies regarding user-generated content.

“Nobody likes sifting through crap looking for something decent to play”

Sony’s Play, Create, Share philosophy applies not just to LittleBigPlanet, but to every game on the system, meaning that content can be uploaded and downloaded by users via the PSN without any need for approval. Microsoft, on the other hand, doesn’t like users of Xbox Live to be exposed to any content that fails to meet certain standards, and insists on approving everything before it’s made available for download.

While nobody likes sifting through crap looking for something decent to play, most people prefer Sony’s policy on UGC, with Epic’s Unreal Tournament III (a series traditionally heavily dependent on UGC) proving more popular on the PS3 than on the 360 for this reason. So with Dragon Age: Origins it sounds like we may well get a similar situation to what happened with Unreal Tournament III, with PS3 users getting a wealth of content to choose from, while Xbox users have to wait for select cuts to be picked out and approved.
