Volatile: Violence Integral, Not Wanton

Dead To Rights: Retribution's producer has said that bloody action is important to the game, but not just for the sake of violence.
Volatile Games was set up as a mature division of Blitz Games Studios – it developed the Reservoir Dogs game that got banned in Australia, and is currently developing the first Dead To Rights outing on the current generation of consoles.
Speaking exclusively to games™ about Dead To Rights: Retribution, Volatile’s Imre Jele broached the age-old issue of violence in games. “On one hand, Dead To Rights is characterised by features like the takeouts, and those are brutal,” said Jele. “There are ones I’ve seen a couple of hundred times and I still cringe when I watch them.”
“I know people are going to see [the violence] and not be able to see anything else”
The producer went on to say that he was unhappy that the inevitable response to such mature content would be negative, saying: “I know people are going to see [the violence] and not be able to see anything else.”
“I would like to believe that this game is mature because of that, but also mature because of the sophistication and quality of the story, and the complexity of the gameplay. The violence is not there for violence’s sake. It’s just necessary to tell the story and it’s necessary for the franchise.”
A release date for the Namco-published game is yet to be announced.
