Sony's first quarter fiscal report shows the two giants to be virtually neck and neck

Sony has just announced its quarterly financial results to reveal that sales now stand at a whopping 38.1 million units worldwide. This, coming after Microsoft’s announcement of 41.7 million units shipped worldwide just days before. The gap, as they say is narrowing.

“PS2 still managed to shift 1.6m units”

In Q1 of this year, PS3 shifted 2.4 million units, while PSP sales were down by around 100,000 on this same time last year. As successful as this is, the console still has a long way to go to match the PS2’s 148.3 million unit total announced as of March this year. The last-gen console also managed an impressive 1.6 million further sales in Q1 of this year.
