EA has just announced co-op shooter Army of Two: The 40th Day, scheduled for release this winter

As rumoured, the game is set in Shanghai and will see the return of mercenary protagonists Salem and Rios.

"When a disaster of epic proportions strikes Shanghai, China, Rios and Salem find themselves right in the middle of it all—the wrong place, the wrong time, but the right team. A carefully orchestrated series of mysterious catastrophes is dragging Shanghai to the brink of ruin, and now the Army of Two must fight their way through ravaged city districts as they try to beat the odds and uncover the secret of the 40th Day," read EA's press release.

“The game is set in Shanghai and will see the return of mecenary protagonists Salem and Rios.”

The 40th Day promises more, and better-integrated, co-op features than its predecessor, though EA hasn't yet revealed any specific gameplay details.

Along with PS3 and Xbox 360, the game will also see a release on the PSP.

The original Army of Two was release last March to a mixed critical reception.
