E3 doubles in size

The list of exhibitors at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo has been revealed, and it is more than twice as long as last year's

E3 2009 will play host to 86 publishers and developers, compared to last year's 40.

The news comes after the Entertainment Software Association - E3's organisors - stated that they are making an effort to bring back elements of the trade show's pre-2007 glitz and glamour.

“Is it going to be the over-the-top excess that you've seen in years past? No”

"In response to the glamour and sizzle of 2005 and 2006, there are certainly going to be components of that show," Dan Hewitt, ESA's senior director of communications, told GamesIndustry.biz.

"But is it going to be the over-the-top excess that you've seen in years past? No - but that goes back to learning what is manageable and what is sustainable, and hearing from attendees what it is they want, and creating something that meets their needs."

E3 2008 came under severe fire from a number of major industry players, most notably Will Wright, for lacking excitement, and failing to reflect the size and importance of the games industry

Head over to the official E3 site, for E3 2009's fuil list of exhibitors.
