We're not quite sure of what to make of this. Nintendo has just announced a brand new handheld console as part of the 3DS family, called the 2DS.

As you might expect from the name, the 2DS can play 3DS and DS games but without the glasses-free 3D technology built into the 3D.

Unlike the 3DS and the DS, the 2DS won't fold in the middle - perhaps this is Nintendo's attempt at targetting the tablet market?

The advert for the Nintendo 2DS, below, reveals that the key feature of the 2DS - when compared to its 3DS and 3DS XL brethren - is its value.

Without the expensive 3D technology built into the top screen of the 3DS, it's likely that Nintendo will be able to sell the 2DS console for much less than its standard equivalent.

The 2DS is due for release on 12 October 2013, though no price or further details were provided.

Currently you'll be able to purchase a 2DS either in black and blue or white and red, as well as separate carry cases coming in either red or blue.

Additionally Nintendo announced that it will be releasing a Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD bundle pack for the Wii U on the 4 October, which will come with a code to download the game.

So there you have it, the new - non-foldable - 2DS is coming in October.
