That "scoop of the century"? It could well be Pokemon X and Y's new Mega evolution feature.

Pokemon X and Y may be getting a pretty important addition to the franchise - Mega forms.
Corocoro scans have leaked on the internet, revealing a handful of new Pokemon for X and Y as well as a new feature called 'Mega' forms, which is a kind of evolution that drastically changes existing Pokemon.
Firstly, the new Pokemon leaked in X and Y.
Gogoat has its early evolution revealed, a baby goat called Meekuru.
A completely new Pokemon has been revealed called Dedenne, an Electic/Fairy type Pokemon that has the abilities Pick Up or Cheek Pouches.
Horubii is another new Pokemon that looks like a rabbit that has the abilities Pick Up or Cheek Pouches.
As part of the scans a brand new character was revealed called Koruni, a gym leader that will be the key to understanding Mega Evolutions.
Corocoro revealed that the first event in Pokemon X and Y will give a Torchic, which will be distributed between 12 October 2013 and 12 January 2014 and will be holding a Blaziken Knight. This has some relevance to Mega Stones.
This Mega Stone will be able to unlock a Pokemon's Mega Evolution, a more powerful form of the Pokemon that even has a change in appearance.
Though many of details of Mega Evolutions have not yet been revealed, some of the compatible Pokemon have. These are:
MegaBlaziken, MegaAbsol, MegaMawile, MegaMewtwo, MegaLucario and MegaAmpharos.
They are all the same as their original types, though their Mega Evolutions changes their abilties.
MegaMawile will have the ability Huge Power, MegaBlaziken has Speed Boost, MegaLucario has Adaptability and MegaAbsol has Magic Bounce.
It's not yet known if these are the only Pokemon to be capable of Mega Evolutions, but what is interesting is that there were rumours of a new evolution of Absol coming in Pokemon X and Y.
It also explains the details of Mewtwo's new 'Forme', which turns out to be a Mega Evolution.
If this is related, then that could even mean we'll see Jynx, Pinsir and more with Mega versions. Who knows, though it is probably a coincidence.
This follows recent news that Corocoro would reveal news surrounding a second Eeveelution and a Pokemon that resembles a packet of crisps.
The scans came via Serebii, but we've included their images below for your reference.
