Sony Motion Control Gets A Name

Electronic Arts' CEO John Riccitiello has apparently let slip what Sony's motion control 'wand' is going to be called

Speaking at the UBS 37th Annual Global Media Conference, Riccitiello said, “In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.”

“Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace”

Sony’s standing by its claim that no official name for the ‘wand’ has been announced, with a statement saying something along the lines of, “I have my fingers in my ears… la, la-la, la-la… can’t hear yooooou… what are you saying? Can’t hear yoooou… mmmm… mmmm… MMMMM… what? La-la-la!” released earlier today.

It is called Gem though. Riccitiello wouldn’t just be making it up, would he? We think the name works pretty well, although we’re surprised it’s not two words jammed together in the vein of PlayStation, DualShock, SixAxis, EyeToy etc.
