Canada continues to attract videogame developers, as THQ announces plans to open a new studio in the province of Quebec
Home to the likes of Ubisoft, EA and Eidos, Montreal has a thriving development community, and with Canada's tax benefits and other incentives it was only a matter of time until the other major publishers followed suit. Earlier this year Ubisoft announced plans to open a new studio in Toronto, Ontario.
already THQ is tipping the studio to become "the largest facility in its global studio system," creating in excess of 400 new jobs over the next five years. With Dave Gatchel appointed as general studio manager, THQ Montreal create "core games," and support other THQ studios across "design, engineering, art, content and technology development, quality assurance and localisation."
“Montreal's outstanding pool of creative digital media talent makes this the ideal location”
“Montreal’s outstanding pool of creative digital media talent and its highly regarded university system makes this the ideal location to support our future product and technology development needs,” said Steve DeCosta, THQ svp. “Moreover, government support, in the form of reimbursable tax credits and other incentives, enabled Montreal to stand out as the best combination of creative talent and favorable economics of the cities we evaluated for our new studio.”
THQ executive vice president, Danny Bilson confirmed that the targeted release date for the studios first titles is 2013. Check out the full press release here.
