Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat expects next-gen graphics to surprise us, but that the consoles are capable of so much more.

We've already seen a glimpse of what next-gen is capable of with Sony's PS4 reveal, and with Microsoft's Xbox 720 due to get announced later this month we should have an abundance of shiny, pretty graphics to get excited about.

But despite that Ubisoft's CEO Yannis Mallat believes that the next-gen consoles will 'blow us away' with its visuals. Yet that's not the important part to take away from next-gen consoles, he claims.

"I think that amount of power gives a lot of freedom to our creators," said Mallat in an interview with Game Informer, "and then it's up to them to tailor and tame that power to what suits the game the best."

Mallat added, "It's really on a game-by-game basis."

"I think minds will be blown by the graphics as a hook, as an entry door," clarified Mallat, but that's not what he believes will be important in next-gen consoles.

"To me, what's lying beneath that or beyond that will keep our players involved. When you think about that, even on current generation systems it always takes some time for developers to tame the machine - especially the PlayStation 3."

But this time, with next-gen consoles, it'll be much easier to get these early games up and running on new consoles, which means developers can concentrating on the other important things.

"This time we may see creating amazing games on the visual side of things very quickly," said Mallat, "but to me the social complement and connected thing will be the next-gen experience compared to the current generation system.

"That being said, you'll be blown away by graphics."

Game Informer spoke to Mallat about the next-gen of consoles as part of its 'definitive PS4' issue, which is out now with PS4 game inFamous: Second Son on its cover.
