Aggrieved SimCity players have started a petition on the game’s official forums demanding an offline mode.

The latest iteration in the town-building franchise from Maxis has been widely criticised by players because it needs to be always-online and signed into EA’s Origin servers – even to play in single-player mode.

But the problem is that the servers have been incapable of keeping up with demand and many players have been forced to wait in long queues just to play in single-player mode or have not been able to play at all.

Now, fans have started a forum thread petition demanding an Origin-free offline mode which has generated 27 pages of comments and signatures in about 24 hours.

Some controversy has also been generated by comments by Origin’s Global Community Manager Marcel Hatam, who said dissatisfied customers would be able to get refunds. Despite this, some users have reported being refused refunds by EA.

NowGamer has contacted EA for comment on SimCity.
