Datel Launches Microsoft Lawsuit

Microsoft's latest dashboard update nullifies Datel accessories. Datel fights back...
Third-party accessory manufacturer Datel has launched an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft following the company’s recent dashboard update which includes a nullification of all third-party memory cards.
The excuse, such as it is, offered by Microsoft in explanation of the move is the pretext that third-party memory accessories enable cheating. There are currently approximately 50,000 Datel units in circulation and according to Datel founder Mike Connors, Microsoft’s official unit “offers only one-quarter the memory while listing for the same retail price".
“No visible purpose other than to have that market entirely to themselves.”
Speaking to GamesSpot, he continued: "Microsoft has taken steps to render inoperable the competing Datel memory card for no visible purpose other than to have that market entirely to themselves."
Cheaters are scum to those who care about leaderboards and such things, but memory cards are by no means the only way of doing it. Just look at the top of the Modern Warfare 2 leaderboards and the nonsense 1,000+ kill streaks and it’s clear that merely buying more Xboxs to enable target dummy profiles will also see you equally maligned by the fair play community.
Perhaps then, Microsoft should also disallow players from buying more than one Xbox as this significantly increases occurrences of cheating.
