Ubisoft’s impressive Watch Dogs, which has already been confirmed for PS4 and current-gen consoles, is already up and running on Nintendo’s Wii U, according to Ubisoft.
A recent interview with senior producer Dominic Guay (on Digital Spy) confirmed that Watch Dogs is already up and running on the Wii U thanks to the work done by Ubisoft Bucharest and it is even experimenting with the GamePad’s features.
“We’re still investigating how we’ll use the tablet on the Wii U, but with the things I mentioned before, for us it’s not going to be a weird stretch. It’s natural,” explained Guay.
“What’s really cool with Watch Dogs, when we start thinking of those devices, it’s not a weird abstraction, it’s not like I’m a space alien and now I’m using a tablet. Why am I doing that? Aiden Pearce is using a device to control the city, so it’s quite easy to imagine what we could do with that.”
Guay even mentioned this unique connectivity at the heart of Watch Dogs, going as far to mention other mobile devices, for consoles without GamePads, as well as Nintendo’s console.
"So the connectivity between players with mobile devices, the way you can control the city, the immersion, all those are core and on any platforms we're going to ship on we're going to make sure we nail those pillars down."
It’s unclear if Watch Dogs will offer slightly different experiences on each of its platforms – Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PS4 – in regards to its mobile integration, but it’s a shift many games are moving to exploit in the future.
