Sony has detailed the HD specs of its new Video Delivery Service - those with small hard drives look away now
The service is now live in the UK, but anyone looking to purchase HD movies via the VDS may want to invest in more storage. A spokesperson confirmed to NowGamer that although file sizes vary, users can expect an HD film to take up to 8GB of hard disk space, compared to nearer 2GB for a standard-definition file.
Asked whether there was potential to confuse Blu-ray-buying consumers, the spokesperson said: "No, I don’t think so. I think this is really just another step in the evolution of PlayStation, so you have Blu-ray, you have the Video Delivery Service, there’s Vidzone where you can watch your music, BBC iPlayer as well. For me it’s just broadening the entertainment prospects – maybe even opening the door for a different type of person to start using PlayStation."

Sony also confirmed that no content is streamed across the service – all files are downloaded, with the option to start watching after the initial chunk has downloaded.
