Square Enix is looking to bolster development on its ‘next-gen game engine’ and has begun advertising for an animation researcher to work with its Luminous Studios.

Square Enix’s impressive engine was first seen during its Luminous Studios trailer that showed off some incredibly impressive visuals, beautiful characters and intense visual detail.

According to the job posting on Gamasutra though, Square is looking for an animation researcher to join its team, saying:

“Join our ongoing next-gen game engine development effort at Square Enix! Our Tokyo studio is actively seeking talented Animation Researchers interested in contributing to a multi-platform game engine aimed at delivering cutting-edge content to tomorrow’s gaming systems.”

According to the ad, Square is looking at the future of animation and just what next-gen concerns development teams will be facing in the future.

Such as:

  • Animation architecture
  • Real-time IK and retargeting
  • Procedural animation
  • Facial animation
  • Soft-body animation
  • Animation approximation, compression
  • Animation database

Square’s next-gen engine has already proven that it looks a world apart from the graphics capabilities of even the very best PCs, but just how far will it be able to push things in the future?

Here’s a screengrab of the ad:
