Square Enix's long-standing franchise will return to the West in March

The Japanese publisher announced the news via a number of channels including the game's website, the European PlayStation Blog and Xbox Live.

"We have just completed the latest instalment of Final Fantasy XIII," said producer Yoshinori Kitase in a video on the PlayStation Blog. "In this Final Fantasy we used HD for the first time, which gives you a more detailed image. It also helped us deliver a new vision, and helped us deliver the characters even more attractively."

“HD helped us deliver a new vision”

"We have also created a new battle system," added Kitase. Meanwhile Square Enix president and CEO John Yamamato announced that the track My Hands from the new album by Leona Lewis had been chosen as the game's theme song.

The game will launch on 9 March 2010 on PS3 and 360.
