Is Gas Powered Games 'Project W' A Kings And Castles Kickstarter?

It's about time the Supreme Commander dev started working on something, but what is Project W?

Published on Dec 19, 2012

Gas Powered Games has just gone live with a countdown website teasing some new project by the popular RTS developer.

The site contains nothing but a countdown - which ends on January 14 2013 - and teases an obvious working title of Project W.

The tagline "Ready for Something Wild?" also accompanies the site (likely alluding to the 'W' in Project W) but what does that mean?

"Be the first to see the next big thing," reads the site, "from the designer of Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander, and the team at Gas Powered Games."

Even a look at the site's source code provides no clues.

There's no evidence to suggest otherwise, but we're fairly confident that this should be something Kings And Castles related.

The fantasy RTS was put on hiatus in 2011 after what was presumed to be a year of production. The last video blog on the Kings And Castles official site talks of an intermission, suggesting the game was heading into production.

A post on the related forum over on the Gas Powered forums by Chris Taylor mentions how Kings And Castles development is going on hold due to the developer's efforts on Age Of Empires Online.

"Is K&C dead?" asks Chris Taylor, "Not quite, but it is on hold. The next question is, for how long. And though I would love to answer that, I just don’t know. It could be a year or more, perhaps even years, but in the big scheme of things, we just take things one day at a time."

The post appeared on 11 March 2011, and it seems Gas Powered Games is winding down its work on Age Of Empires Online. So something's up.

Is it Kings And Castles that is going to be announced, or does the term 'Wild' have something more to do with it?

Is this a Kickstarter to get Kings And Castles created? Uber Entertainment successfully funded Planetary Annihilation earlier this year, and proving that RTS (from ex-Gas Powered devs, too!) has a home on the crowdfunding site.

There's a while to wait yet, but we'll see if we can get a comment out of Gas Powered, even if it's "No, now go away!"
