The Half-Life 3 speculation continues, as Valve confirms it is working on a new and improved version of Source 2.

Believe it or not, but 4chan members visited Valve's studio over the weekend to wish Gabe Newell a happy birthday.

Which is nice.

Why is this of interest to you? Well, as part of the celebrations Newell was asked about the potential of a new engine, more specifically being referred to as Source 2.

Newell replied with "We've been working on Valve's new engine stuff for a while, we're probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with."

Though Newell himself didn't specifically refer to this 'new engine' as Source 2, details of the engine were rumoured back in August when files relating to the new engine were leaked in Source Filmmaker.

So Source 2 - if it ends up being called that - is happening, does this mean Half-Life 3 is on the way? Lest we forget, Half-Life 2 was released alongside the original Source engine in 2004, so the potential for the third Half-Life is certainly there.

We can dream, anyway. What do you think? Is Valve holding out on Half-Life 3 to tie in with Source 2?

Check out the entire video of 4chan's stay at Valve's offices. It's pretty funny at times, but also brim with a few interesting comments from Newell for those willing to put up with the crummy video and sound.
