XCOM: Enemy Unknown producer Garth DeAngelis has admitted that the Wii U Game Pad would be a perfect fit for Firaxis' console strategy game, but confirmed that the studio currently hs no plans to launch the game on Nintendo's upcoming console.
"I haven't been able to play Wii U yet, but we know what it does," he told NowGamer in Cologne. "I'm going to try and get my hands on it here [gamescom]. From what I understand you have the top screen, and being able to move your [XCOM] units on there would be super-cool."
XCOM: Enemy Unknown isn't currently in development for Wii U, but DeAngelis didn't completely outrule the possibility:
"We don't have plans for it at the moment but Nintendo's surprised us in the past. When the Wii comes out everyone was scratching their heads saying 'how's this going to do?' and it proved to be successful - maybe not in the ways that we may like, but I don't want to doubt Nintendo, I think they could work some magic."
Speaking about the Wii U's additional power, DeAngelis added: "If you can bridge that gap... I think this thing has a much better chance at sustainable success rather than being sort of a gimmicky boom like the Wii was."
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set to launch on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 12 October.
