In its slew of PS Vita games highlighted during Sony's Gamescom 2012 conference, Media Molecule surprised by heading on stage to reveal a brand new IP.

The game, called Tearaway, is an adventure/platform game that - according to Alex Evans - is inspired by the creativity of paper.

You'll play as Iota, a messenger from another dimennsion, as you try and help him return to the real world.

The world of Tearaway is built out of paper, with platforms rolling out or folding away. It matches the charm of LittleBigPlanet with a Karamari Forever-like art style.

Some of the features of the game were demoed, with rear touch used to activate trampolines like drumskins, throwing Iota and any objects into the air.

The rear-touch panel was also used to 'poke' into Tearaway's world, ripping through the papercraft world to destroy enemies or push blocks.

Evans described this as "leaking into our world" with our "godly powers".

A video trailer then demoed some additional gameplay, such as using the camera to add a real-world texture to a cardboard creature.

There was no mention of Media Molecule's famous Play, Create, Share motto - so it's not clear whether this will be a major part of the game.

But it's a game by Media Molecule, so expect cutesy visuals and fantastic, creative gameplay.
