Project Giana is set to bring HD platforming to PC, XBLA and PSN - via Kickstarter

Super Mario Bros. clone Great Giana Sisters may have ruffled Nintendo's feathers back in 1987, but the IP will strike out on its own with new title Project Giana, which has just launched on Kickstarter looking for $150,000.

"Project Giana is the grandchild of The Great Giana Sisters, a Super Mario Bros clone made by the now-deceased founder of our company in the eighties," reads the slightly bizarre description.

"Of course, Nintendo didn’t like that, and the sisters got pulled off the shelves. That’s ancient history now, and, in an ironic twist, a legit Giana game was released for the DS in 2009. That was a pretty awesome move from Nintendo, and we’re grateful!"

Project Giana is a working title; the new game will hit PC, and later PSN and XBLA, and enable players to control Giana in a fantasy dream world - she, and the whole world, can be flipped at will to unlock new abilities, and players will need to combine the two states to progress.

"The dream and nightmare worlds look, sound and behave differently, and morph between each other in real time, enabling all kinds of tricky maneuvers and bonus puzzly bits for secret areas," adds the description.

The game looks visually and mechanically polished - check out the Project Giana Kickstarter page to see it in action.
