Microsoft Surface, the first tablet from the firm behind Windows will launch on 26 October, the company has confirmed.

“The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices," reads a recent financial report.

The announcement only applies to the entry level, ARM CPU version of the device, with the Windows 8 capable Intel-powered device coming in early 2013 according to the Telegraph.

Microsoft said Surface would be competitively-priced, but a recent rumour suggests one of the tablets could cost as much as £650. Microsoft has yet to confirm an RRP.
