Need For Speed will hit cinemas on 7 February, 2014, Dreamworks Studios and distributor Disney have revealed.
The racing IP rights were acquired by Dreamworks last month, with Act of Valor director Scott Waugh attached, and shooting set to begin in early 2013.
The description tells of "a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise"
The date comes amid a number of high-profile videogame movie adaptation news - Deus Ex is in the works, Michael Fassbender will star in Assassin's Creed and God of War has a screenwriter, according to recent reports.
The Need for Speed franchise has sold over 140 million units, and is now fully under the watchful eye of Hot Pursuit/Most Wanted studio Criterion.
