PSPgo Boosts Sales For Sony

PSP sales rise 300 per cent in three days since the launch of the PSPgo
Despite day one discounts and disgruntled rumblings from retailers in the UK it seems the PSPgo is enjoying an extremely successful launch period in the United States.
SCEA revealed today that sales of its portable device have risen 300 per cent in the last three days. Naturally with increased hardware sales the download rate has also skyrocketed with purchases from the PS store up 200 per cent.
“We expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season”
In an interview with Gamasutra Patrick Seybold, SCEA cooperate communications director, commented, “The launch of PSPgo has generated strong consumer interest in the overall PSP platform and the PlayStation Network's digital content offering. With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks - from LittleBigPlanet to Assassin's Creed Bloodlines - we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSPgo and PSP-3000”.
While we can foresee sales of the PSPgo being relatively healthy it’s the old PSP-3000 that is sure to suffer in the future with Sony sure to phase out UMDs eventually. However Seybold did mention that the 3000 experienced ‘a big lift’ in sales thanks to high profile releases such as Gran Turismo and FIFA 10.
