[09/07/12] LinkedIn Profile Suggests GTA 5 To Be Shown At GamesCom, Turns Out To Be Fake

The internet was a furore with speculation recently as a LinkedIn profile of Gerald Bauser - who claims to be a producer at GamesCom and in charge of organising a number of events at the German games show.

GTA 5 appeared alongside claims that an announcement from Valve (Half-Life 3?) and a reveal of Guild Wars 3 (Guild Wars 2 has yet to be released) could be happening at GamesCom 2012.

Additionally, the profile suggested a sequel to Rockstar's Table Tennis game is in the works.

The profile looked suspicious initially, but NowGamer contacted venue Koelnmesse who clarified that no one named Gerald Bauser was involved with GamesCom and that the profile was indeed fake.

[30/05/12] Max Payne 3 Easter Egg Could Reveal GTA 5 Planes

A multiplayer map in Max Payne 3 (Tiete River map) seems to conceal images of planes not seen in Max Payne 3, and may be vehicles in GTA 5.

A user on the took photos of the images, which were pinned on a board in the game's multiplayer map.

Two of the planes seen are also the same as those spotted in the GTA 5 announcement trailer - a fighter jet and a private jet - while two additional planes seem to suggest other vehicles coming to GTA 5.

One of them is a Hercules-style transport plane and the other a commercial passenger jet.

Are these vehicles expected in GTA 5, or just old assets no one has seen before?

[26/05/12] GameStop Financial Forecast Suggests GTA 5 Release Date Is Unknown Among Retailers

Releasing its predictions for the fiscal year, GameStop revealed details on the revenue it expected to make on games released throughout the financial year.

Discussing these predictions, however, GameStop president Tony Bartel said "In terms of GTA5, we don’t have information that we can share at this point so we have not put that into our forecast. We would adjust our estimate if we had knowledge that GTA was coming out."

So even the retailers aren't aware of the release date yet.

[23/05/12] Take Two Predicts Revenue, Analyst Suggests Results Point To GTA 5 Release

A recent investor call from Take Two has the company predicting a £1.7 billion in revenue for it's fiscal year 2012/13. In other words, suggesting it would earn that much in net revenue by the end of 31 March 2013.

In lieu of this, Michael Pachter revealed that he believed this kind of money isn't possible for Take Two without the release of GTA 5.

In addition to this, Pachter revealed that Wedbush Securities is "modelling a ship date for Grand Theft Auto 5 in the last two weeks of March 2013."

Pachter believes that Rockstar will contribute billion to this estimated billion.

[16/05/12] GTA 5 Vehicle List Found In Max Payne 3 Code - Report

According to a user on, a list of vehicles has turned up in Max Payne 3's code.

The list - which appeared in a vehicles.ide file - is a string of names with handling values, camera angles and various other stats.

Many of the names on the list are recognisable GTA vehicles - such as Infernus, Patriot, Bobcat and more recent oens such as the Cognescenti.

There are new names not yet seen in a GTA game before too, while the confirmation of tanks - i.e. the Rhino - will make fans happy.

Additionally, new unique vehicles were mentioned in the list, such as the skimobile, snowplough or bobsleigh.

Check out the listing in its entirety, including boats, helicopters and bikes.

[13/05/12] Amazon Predicts December 2012 Release Date

While it wasn't the first retailer to guess a release date,'s prediction of December was not provoked by any new announcement.

The listing has since changed, now not suggestiing a date at all and instead inviting customers to sign up for notifications about GTA 5's release date.

Is there something Amazon knows that we don't, or is it just a tentative release date?

Considering December would be an unusual release date for Rockstar to choose for GTA 5 we wouldn't put much faith in this, but you never know...

[10/05/12] GTA 5 October Release Date 'Preferred' By Rockstar, Will Hit Sales Of 18m - Report

Following the news of BioShock Infinite's delay, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter claimed that October is the release date to expect for GTA 5, claiming it was Rockstar's "preferred" date.

Pachter agrees that the move was a tactical one from Take Two, meaning it could give both titles its "undivided attention".

In Pachter's report, he also shared the info that he believes "the next GTA to sell at least 18 million units", perhaps reaching as many as 24 million units in line with the franchise's attach rate.

[09/05/12] BioShock Infinite Delayed To 2013, Possibly Due To GTA 5 Release Date

Take Two - owner of both 2K Games and Rockstar Games - announced that BioShock Infinite will no longer be shipping in 2012 and, instead, due for release on 26 February 2013.

Though it wasn't mentioned, many speculated that this was a tactical decision by Take Two games to make room for GTA 5. BioShock Infinite's initial release date was set for 16 October 2012 - a period often targetted for GTA releases by Rockstar.

Though it's all speculation, there's every reason to believe that Take Two might want to separate the two titles, to stop BioShock Infinite suffering because of GTA 5's release date.

Whether true, however, will have to wait until an official GTA 5 release date is announced.

[03/05/12] Max Payne 3 And GTA 5 Multiplayer Crews Coming To More Games

Talking to NowGamer, Rockstar confirmed that Max Payne 3's Crew system will be coming to GTA 5 "and beyond."

Though it wasn't specified exactly how these Crews will carry over, Rockstar did mention "it’s clear that we’ve got big plans for future Rockstar releases."

[27/03/12] Michael Pachter predicts GTA 5 will be shown before E3 2012

In an interview with GTTV, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter predicted that Rockstar would show more of GTA 5 before E3 2012. Here's what he had to say.

"They’ve outgrown the show. I think they’re way too cool to go. My read on those guys is they like stealing the thunder from everything else. So if I had to bet, I’d say you’d get an announcement on GTA 5 the day before E3 starts, that’d be Monday, June 4. They don’t show up and that’s all anybody can do is talk about GTA 5 at the show."

Pachter also said he expects GTA 5 to launch 23rd October.

[18/04/12] GTA 5 has been delayed until December, says source

Dutch gaming site InsideGamer cited a freelance who said that GTA 5 has been postponed from an October release window to December, on the same day that PSM3 magazine predicted a 9th March 2013 release date. Who’s right?

[07/04/12] GTA 5 is 87 per cent finished, says Rockstar ‘insider’

Another Rockstar Games ‘insider’ leak here (we’re noticing a trend). This time, a poster on DSN revealed tons of alleged info on both GTA 5 and the next Red Dead game, which he claims is called Red Dead Rebellion. Check out the full post here.

Here’s the juicy stuff:

  • GTA 5 is allegedly 87 per cent finished and has been in development since 2008
  • Los Santos is allegedly the only city in the game, split up into five populaces and three provinces
  • The provinces in question are allegedly, ‘The Greater Naranja Area’, ‘Los Puerta’, and ‘The Greater Los Santos’.
  • The country is allegedly huge and includes the ‘San Ventura Mountain Range’, ‘Bone Valley’, ‘Larry Andreasen Bridge’, ‘Lawrence Island’ and ‘Santos National Park’.
  • Mt. Chilead is part of the San Ventura Mountain Range.
  • The central character is called Adrian, and he is in the GTA 5 trailer. This guy

  • The southern border of the map is allegedly blocked by ‘impassable mountains’ and a fence along the range, which depicts the US-Mexico border.
  • Players will not be able to pass into Mexico -District names Jefferson, Vinewood, Mulholland, and Idlewood will return from San Andreas.
  • The Los Santos map is said to be more than three times the size of Liberty City, surrounded by two areas the size of Red Dead Redemption maps on either side as countryside.

[22/03/12] GTA 5 allows imported crews from Max Payne 3, Rockstar confirms

Rockstar confirmed that Max Payne 3 crews for multiplayer will be transferable to GTA 5, meaning you and your mates can make a gang and pass them on to GTA 5 at launch. Neat huh? Check out the full details here.

[22/03/12] GTA 5 will feature drugs, gangs, customisation and more, says ‘insider’

Another alleged insider leak for GTA 5 here, this time over at the Gamespot forums. The poster, who claims to be friends with an ex-Rockstar North employee spilled the beans, including ‘confirmation’ that both Albert and Kevin De Silva are two of the three playable characters.

This shadows earlier rumours so there could be weight here. Another rumour is that 32-player multiplayer on consoles will revolve around gangs vying for reputation and territory across Los Santos.

Rockstar Games recently confirmed that gangs created in Max Payne 3 would be transferable to GTA 5, so this seems like it could be a possibility. The poster suggests that Rockstar will reveal more at E3 2012.

[19/03/12] GTA 5 strategy guide will ‘sell out’ says BradyGames

It’s a no-brainer really, but BradyGames brings the GTA 5 hype-speak by saying that its strategy guide for the game will sell out. BradyGames’ global strategy guide publisher Mike Degler explained, "When Grand Theft Auto V finally comes out, we’re going to have a really good year. We know we’re going to sell out of strategy guides for that game.”

[06/03/12] GTA 5 is being co-developed by Mafia 2 dev 2K Czech, says source

VG247 reported that Mafia 2 studio 2K Czech is helping on development of GTA 5, and has been for almost a year so far. The report claims that the studio is also working on pre-production of Mafia 3, using tech that will be seen in GTA 5.

[02/03/12] GTA TV and ‘Rockstar TV’ trademarked by Rockstar Games

Rockstar’s parent company Take Two registered trademarks for GTA TV and Rockstar TV in the US on this day, along with the description, "Computer game programs and software; animated motion picture films featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes.”

The registration continues, “Pre-recorded video discs and other pre-recorded digital and electronic media in the field of live action programs, motion pictures, or animation featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes."

Phew. Could this mean a new game footage capturing system, similar to Call of Duty’s theatre mode, or something else? Stay tuned.

[15/02/12] GTA 5 will launch 23rd November, says Zavvi

Another release date prediction from online retailer Zavvi - this time for a 23rd November 2012 launch. This would place it perilously close to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 launch window, but as EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich told us on the same day, GTA 5 and Rockstar games won’t fear anyone.

[13/02/12] GTA 5 getting another reveal after Max Payne 3 ships, says Rockstar

in a statement issued early February 2012, "First of all, we’d like to again thank you and everyone out there for the amazing response to the debut Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer. We know that there are a ton of questions you all have about the game, including release date and lots else."

"Right now, we are very hard at work on the game and are excited as well to show and tell you more as development progresses - expect that we'll be talking much more about GTAV starting at some point in a few months’ time," added the developer. "Please hang tight until then and thank you all for your patience and support!"

[26/01/12] GTA 5 won’t use L.A. Noire’s MotionScan tech, says McNamara

After saying that GTA 5 might use Team Bondi’s MotionScan facial animation tech in November 2011, Brendan McNamara did an about-face and said that no, it won’t. McNamara does explain that GTA 5 might use new animation tech, and he explains it all in our news story on the issue.

[23/01/12] Record company EMI talks up GTA 5 soundtrack

Speaking with Music Weekly, EMI’s vice president of music resources Rod Kotler explained, "Over the years, the Grand theft Auto series has provided EMI Music Publishing with a unique opportunity to get sync placements for some hidden gems in our catalogue that otherwise may not have landed in the world of video games.”

"We look forward to working with Rockstar Games on future versions of this fantastic series and to continuing to deliver value to our songwriters in this regard." What are these gems? We’ll have to wait to find out.

[18/02/12] GTA 5 will launch between September 12 and March 13 says analysts

More release date chatter, this time from NACM analyst Mike Hickey, who theorised that Rockstar’s decision to delay Max Payne 3 to May 2012 would likely push GTA 5 to somewhere between September 2012 and March 2013, which again, sounds much more realistic than summer 2012.

[09/01/12] GTA 5 will launch March 2013, says retailers

Now convinced that saying GTA 5 would be out in May 2012 was just insane, retailers started changing their tune. Online retailers and both started posting GTA 5 as on-sale in March 2013. Which is much more realistic.

[03/01/12] GTA 5 map is just Los Santos, but is “Very big”, says Rockstar

Everything went mega-quiet in GTA 5 land between mid-November to December 2011. The rumour mill reactivated in January 2012, with Rockstar’s very own Dan Houser waxing lyrical on the game.

In a GI interview, Dan Houser was asked if GTA 5 was set across the whole of San Andreas, to which he replied, "I've got to be real careful here, or they will drag me through the office and whip me with barbwire. I will stick to exactly what's in the press release. It's Los Santos and the surrounding countryside - and a very big map."

[21/11/11] Ballad of Gay Tony star Luis will not return in GTA 5, actor confirms

In an intense case of straw clutching, many gamers started theorisingthat Ballad of Gay Tony protagonist Luis Fernando Lopez would return in GTA 5. However, an alleged insider posted a rumour on the GTA forums, saying that voice actor for Lopez, Mario D’Leon debunked the claims.

[15/11/11] GTA 5’s map is ‘leaked’, turns out to be a total farce.

An alleged Rockstar insider posted an image of what they claimed to be the in-game map for GTA 5. The arguably dodgy art didn’t look all that convincing, and everyone calmed down rather quickly. Check out our news story for the full gallery of images.

[14/11/11] GTA 5 speculation is ‘internet lunacy’, says Rockstar

With the rumour mill in high gear surrounding GTA 5, NowGamer asked Rockstar straight-up for its take on everything that happened between October and November, to which Rockstar replied:

“We do not comment on rumors, speculation and general internet lunacy. We do appreciate seeing the passion gaming fans have shown toward Grand Theft Auto V and we look forward to sharing more information with everyone soon.”

[14/11/11] GTA 5’s lead character and voice actor are supposedly leaked

An IMDB entry for actor Ned Luke – of Diagnosis Murder and Law & Order fame – suggested that Luke is in the frame to play ‘Alberta De Silva’, one of the three rumoured De Silva brothers, and one of three playable characters in GTA 5.

Actor Jimmy Taenaka – who is friends with Ned Luke – also tweeted, "My fellow thespian Ned Luke is the lead voice and profile in the upcoming game by Rockstar Grand Theft Auto 5! Way to go Ned! Wholly Molly!"

[10/11/11] GTA 5 play tester spills secrets on the city, seasons and gangs

Another GTAForums leak here, as an alleged GTA 5 play tester at Rockstar North tells all about his experience of the game in a forum post. These were purely rumours at the time, but the suggestion that Los Santos is the only city in the game keeps on circulating, so there may be an element of truth to that.

Here is the list of alleged GTA 5 features in full:

  • GTA 5's environment will be landlocked on some sides, with climbable mountain ranges and bordered by the pacific ocean to the south and west.
  • Los Santos is the only 'major' city in the game, and is bigger than the whole of GTA IV's Liberty City. The game also includes smaller cities/towns.
  • The surronding environment will range from snow-topped peaks to forests, beaches and deserts.
  • GTA 5's progression is structured in a way that's entirely new for the franchise.
  • The narrative focusses on a war between rival Mexican drug cartels.
  • Gangs will make a return with African-American, Korean, Japanese and Russian mobs all featured
  • but not the Italian mafia.
  • All planes in the trailer, bar passenger jets, can be piloted.
  • Mini-games will include bowling, going to the shooting range.
  • The seasons will change, with the campaign taking place across a year.
  • Weapons, player appearance, vehicles, and the type of vehcile that spawns at your safehouse can be customised.
  • The protagonist is called Ray, is 53-year-old divorcee and has two young children who appear in cutscenes in the game.
  • Hidden packages will be '100 crazy Sasquatches' place around the environment.
  • Players will be penned in the playing environment by a 'never-ending mountain-range' when trying to circumnavigate it by sea, or an infinitely-long desert.
  • The southeast part of the map is the Mexican-US border - skip the border and you'll get the top 'wanted' rating and be on your way to the desert.
  • There will be dogs in the game.

[05/11/11] ‘Journalist’ claims he has seen 30 minutes of GTA 5, tells all

Over at GTAForums a so-called journalist for a UK PlayStation magazine claimed that he was given information based on a 30-minute play session of GTA 5 at Rockstar North’s office in Edinburgh, Scotland. He said the information was passed to him, not that he himself played it.

The poster listed a ton of alleged GTA 5 details. The best bits are below, but you can read the whole thing here.

“The game world is absolutely massive and will push both xbox and PS3 to the very limit in terms of what it has accomplished. Yes, the main city is simply Los Santos however is it AT LEAST 4 times bigger than Liberty City in GTA 4 and that is just Los Santos.”

“The surrounding country side, beaches, etc are massive. For instance, we saw the main character (an African/American, early 30's) travel by car from the center of Los Santos into the wilderness and it took over 15 minutes.”

“The views were incredible from farmhouses with cattle, huge wind farms, an oil refinery which appeared to be living and breathing with nearly 100 NPCs working on machinery, operating vehicles, lifting and loaded, etc, unlike the gas works in GTA 4 which seemed to only house a few NPC at a time.”

“The forests are more beautiful than those in RDR and featured people camping, young NPC drinking and dancing around campfires, people riding dirt bikes and jumping over logs, streams, etc. The water effects, fauna, plants, trees all looked beautiful”.

“The shooting mechanics have been greatly improved with animations for diving, climbing, rolling and crawling all added for better realism. The re-loading animations for new ammo also look cooler, less static.”

[03/11/11] GTA 5 is ‘another radical reinvention of GTA universe’

Rockstar’s Sam Houser broke radio silence on GTA 5, following the trailer reveal. Houser’s statement said that GTA 5 would, 'reinvent the GTA universe'.

Houser explained, "Grand Theft Auto 5 is another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe. We are incredibly excited to share our new vision with our fans." Simple, short, classic Rockstar.

[03/11/11] GTA 5 is largest and most ambitious game yet, says Rockstar

Following Rockstar’s GTA 5 trailer reveal, the studio put out a press release confirming multiplayer and to reel off some other facts about the game, Here’s the release text in full:

“We are very proud to officially announce that Grand Theft Auto V is in full development."

"Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created," the company adds.

"A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California."

[03/11/11] GTA 5 trailer hints at the next reveal date

Members of team NowGamer spotted a few signs in the trailer that could point to the next reveal date for GTA 5. Skip to the scene where you see an estate agent hammering a for sale sign outside of a home, and you’ll notice the house number is 2405.

Could Rockstar reveal more of GTA 5 on 24th of May? With Max Payne 3 releasing mid May, and Rockstar shifting its attention to GTA 5, this is a very real possibility.

[02/11/11] GTA 5 is out July 2012, claims Zavvi

Shortly after the GTA 5 trailer launched, tons of retailers, analysts and members of the gaming press started speculating about the GTA 5 release date. First out the gate was online retailer Zavvi, which claimed GTA 5 would launch July 2012, and had already started taking preorders for the date.

[02/11/11] GTA 5 trailer: ‘Every pixel was perfect’ says analyst

EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich shared his thoughts on the GTA 5 reveal trailer with us, "It's a trailer, a trailer that was scrutinized for months internally at Rockstar. They made sure every pixel was perfect," he told us. "It is no different than in the movies...everything looks exciting when you see it in trailer form."

[02/11/11] Ray Liotta debunks claims that Tommy Vercetti is back in GTA 5

As the title says, Ray Liotta was baffled when gamers and websites started claiming that the lead character in the GTA 5 trailer was none other than Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti. The actor’s agent quickly debunked the claims.

[02/11/11] GTA 5 will launch on PC

Following the gloss of the GTA 5 reveal trailer, it’s easy to assume that the footage shown was running on high-end PC tech. Rockstar didn’t confirm or deny this in any capacity, but a 4Chan forum memberclaimed to have seen the game running on PC.

The poster said GTA V on “PC comes out on launch and is being ported by [Rockstar] Leeds. From what they’ve shown us, it is optimised much better than GTA IV.” The studio hasn’t said a word about GTA 5 on PC yet, however.

[02/11/11] GTA 5 trailer gets dissected by NowGamer, tons of clues are revealed

Our intrepid team of gaming sleuths here at NowGamer went through the GTA 5 trailer with a fine-toothed comb in search of hints about what the game might deliver. You can check out the full list of facts here, but here’s a rundown anyway.

First, GTA 5 is set in San Andreas, as seen by the Vinewood sign, and it’s also set in the present day, given the cars and architecture on show. GTA 5 also – as predicted – focuses on finance and the recessions, as seen by clips of homeless people, beggars and homes being sold off.

The main character – rumoured to be one of the De Silva brothers, moved to San Andreas to escape a life of crime or some other misdeeds. The narrator also makes references to his kids and family, which again, might tie into the rumour about playing as three members of the De Silva family.

We also see the return of multiplayer, Mt. Chilead, images of the countryside, jets, choppers, jet-skis, gyms, hookers and more. One thing is certain, GTA 5 is going to be colossal!

[01/11/11] GTA 5 will span all of San Andreas, and feature co-op

Now that the trailer was out in the open, November kicked off with a few new rumours about GTA 5 co-op and the location. Sure, we know that GTA 5 will be set within San Andreas, but some rumours suggested that the game would only venture to Los Santos.

Another 4Chan forum member spilled the alleged leaks, but be warned, there are potential spoilers in there.

The list of details mentions co-op in the campaign, Los Santos, gang turf wars, a theme that revolves around finance, multiplayer support for 32 players on console, 64 players on PC, car modding, multiple endings and a national guard six-star wanted level.

[27/10/11] GTA 5 trailer debuts online

The moment everyone had been waiting for – Rockstar finally lifts the lid off GTA 5, by way of a stylish trailer that confirms the San Andrea setting, and featuring a snazzy soundtrack, ‘Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake’ by Small Faces. Minds are blown. Relive the GTA 5 trailer here.

[26/10/11] GTA 5 rumoured to be set in LA or Washington

By October 2011, the GTA 5 reveal trailer still hadn’t been published online, so gamers and the gaming press were still trying to guess where the new game would be set. Washington appeared in rumour pages, due to the rumoured financial theme of GTA 5, while others sided with San Andreas just because, well, just because.

As reported by Kotaku, a source suggested that GTA 5 would be set in San Andreas and feature multiple playable characters, as previously suggested by roll call and casting leaks earlier in 2011. The De Silva brothers are said to be the three main, playable characters.

[25/10/11] An interview with Rockstar’s Dan Houser hints at the studio’s approach to GTA 5

It’s rare for Rockstar boss Dan Houser to give interviews, and it’s even rarer for him to drop hints about unreleased projects, but he did just that in an interview with Entertainment Weekly as he dropped hints in regards to GTA 5.

Houser said that Rockstar tackles GTA development by taking a place and time period first, then a protagonist and then building everything up with story and missions, which he describes as, “the same thing, hopefully, by the time the game comes out.”

About GTA 5’s alleged financial gain theme and the real-life repression, Houser said, “Things you were worried about seem stupid because they didn’t come true. And things you weren’t worried about, you should have been worried about, because they did come true. It’s been a very tumultuous decade.”

[25/10/11] GTA 5 could be the biggest game launch ever, and shatter Call of Duty sales records, says analyst

Mere moments after the GTA 5 logo was revealed on the Rockstar Games homepage, everyone was chipping in with their own two cents about what the game would involve.

EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich shared his thoughts with NowGamer, stating that he expected the game to smash records. “"The announcement certainly comes as a surprise since they are not under any pressure to formerly announce the title this year.”

"I couldn’t speculate on game features, technology or general upgrades we should all expect, but given Rockstar's historical consistency of making some of our industry's best games, you can certainly expect that GTA V will be one of the biggest launches of all time and could potentially shatter current sales records held by Call of Duty."

[25/10/11] GTA 5 logo is revealed on Rockstar’s website for the first time

In the same month as GTA 3’s 10 year anniversary, Rockstar Games finally revealed GTA 5, by posting the official logo on its official website. The logo confirms the game as GTA 5, and features a roman numeral five covered in a five-dollar bill motif. What could it mean?

[21/07/11] GTA 5 will include L.A. Noire’s MotionScan tech, says dev

Back in July last year, Team Bondi’s Brendan McNamara stated that Rockstar is considering MotionScan facial technology, the same engine used in L.A. Noire. McNamara also said that this wouldn’t apply to all of the characters.

McNamara explained, “Grand Theft Auto is incredibly huge, so you’ve got all the problems of how big the cast would be and how many lines you would have to record.” So the jury is still out on this one.

[21/07/11] GTA 5 could appear Wii U launch title, says Take Two

Nintendo’s E3 2011 show reel made no mention of GTA, but Take Two’s Strauss Zelnick championed Rockstar’s support of the format, based on what the developer had seen of it so far.

Zelnick explained, “They [Rockstar] support the platform and they were pretty excited about what they have seen.” Zelnick continued, saying that possible Rockstar development “will be driven by economic opportunity and creative opportunity.”

So short story – if the Wii U is a success, we can expect Rockstar to support it in future. Does this rule out GTA 5 on Nintendo’s format, no not at all, but it’d be quite a feat if the game did appear. We’re not so convinced.

[01/07/11] GTA 5 will release in 2012, predicts EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich

With E3 2011 behind the games industry, attention quickly returned to rumours surrounding GTA 5, which was helped along by analyst quotes and leaks regarding characters in the game.

This rumour began as Take Two extended its publishing deal with Rockstar Games. Take Two commented on the deal by saying that Rockstar’s slate of releases in 2012 would consist of a “Very strong pipeline of titles in development.”

With the world “titles” plural, and only Max Payne 3 revealed at the time, all bets suggested that Take Two was referring to GTA 5. When NowGamer asked EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich for his views, he said that a November 2012 release date was most likely.

“Personally I’d go for November 2012. The market has been so over-saturated with FPS that there is and will be considerable demand for sandbox action-based titles for the next 3 years.”

[29/03/11] GTA 5 will feature returning characters, casting call suggests According to a leaked roll call of characters

GTA 5 will see the return of character from previous GTA titles. The roll call included names and bios for characters, including the colourful chap James Pedeaston, a radio host arrested in Sri Lanka for child molestation. Err, nice.

Check the roll call link above for more alleged characters. Rumours also circulated that Patrick “Packie” McCrery would return, largely because we last saw him entering Liberty City’s Francis International Airport at the end of Ballad of Gay Tony. Rumour mongers suggest he is flying to San Andreas and will appear in GTA 5.

[12/03/11] GTA 5 will have more than one playable character

This is a long-running rumour, which again, stems from a leaked character list. The list was spotted by eagle eyed gamers, and was linked to a Take Two game codenamed ‘Rush’. The character bios are classic GTA, and seem to suggest that there will be more than one playable character.

Chiefly the De Silva brothers – Simon, Albert and Kevin – a trio of scoundrels with varying financial standing and success in life. The focus on money and financial gain also underlines the five-dollar bill motif in the GTA 5 logo.
