Game, the troubled UK high street videogame retailer has confirmed to NowGamer that it will have to cut jobs - but staff across its network of retail stores will be unaffected.

Game will cut 46 roles from the 400 in its head office as part of a restructure designed to enable the group to "better to respond to the current video games market".

Game will also undergo an executive reshuffle as the group attempts to turn its fortunes around in the face of market challenges, and stock issues - first reported by NowGamer.

Check out Game's official statement below:

As part of our strategy to position GAME for future success, we have today outlined a number of proposed changes in our head office structure. These changes reflect the growth of our multi-channel operations and the progress of our Dedicated to Gaming strategy. They will also position us better to respond to the current video games market.

Tricia Brennan will become Chief Commercial Officer, with responsibility for all of our customer offerings and supplier partnerships. Tricia will work with the commercial, marketing and supply chain teams to deliver a market leading proposition across all of our channels.

Tom Devine will become Channel Director, with responsibility for our store and ecommerce operations. Tom will drive all of our customer facing activities and ensure that we deliver a unique experience to customers wherever they use our services.

The changes come into effect immediately.

As part of these changes to the structure, it is with regret that Dave Hughes will be leaving GAME at the end of March. Dave has made a huge contribution to the progress of key elements of the Group’s strategy over the last year, overseeing the re-launch of the GAME.co.uk website, a significant increase in ecommerce market share, and the evolution of our CRM strategies.

It is also with regret that the proposed restructure will result in around 46 fewer roles at our central support centre in Basingstoke. Our proposed new structure will change the way that we operate and will enable us to be significantly more efficient in our relationships with suppliers and customers. We are giving our full help and support to the colleagues who are affected by these proposed changes.
