The Last Of Us: Story, Online And Sequel Plans Detailed For PS3 Exclusive
Uncharted developer Naughty Dog has dropped a ton of info on it's survival horror title, The Last of Us.
Published on Feb 6, 2012
The Last of Us is set 20 years after the outbreak of a killer fungus, with central character Ellie too young to remember the pre-apocalyptic world, the latest issue of GI has confirmed.
Joel, a weapons/drug smuggler is the playable character who agrees to take Ellie on the road and away from a military-quarantined camp - where anyone with signs of fungal infection are killed.
The Last of Us will take place across the US, with enemies including other humans and infected.
The Last of Us will also include an online mode and will avoid a cliffhanger ending according to Naughty Dog.
"We’re going to have some sort of online component," director Bruce Straley confirmed. "We’re working on a bunch of ideas, but we haven’t nailed anything down. We definitely know it’s going to be awesome."
Meanwhile a Last of Us sequel is not yet a foregone conclusion: "The story is self-contained. The story stands on its own," added creative director Neil Druckmann. "We don’t end on a cliffhanger. The characters and the journey they go through ends with this story."
The Last of Us is expected to hit PS3 in late 2012 or early 2013.
