Diablo 3's development team is still working on a huge amount of feature tweaks and iteration, game director Jay Wilson has confirmed in a blog post.

"We've been called out for messing around with systems too much, that the game is good as-is and we should just release it," writes Wilson. "I think that's a fair argument to make, but I also think it's incorrect. Our job isn't just to put out a game, it's to release the next Diablo game. No one will remember if the game is late, only if it's great. We trust in our ability to put out a great game, but we're not quite there yet."

Blizzard's action RPG threequel still doesn't have a solid release date, but has been in invite-only beta for months - that could be set to continue with numerous game systems still yet to be finalised.

As well as "major changes to the skill and rune systems," that Wilson isn't ready to discuss, Diablo 3 has undergone such recent changes as moving a quick slot button to become a dedicated potion button, and the removal of the Mystic artisan, scrolls of identification and the keys to remote salvaging/selling, the Cauldron of Jordan and Nephalem Cube.

Diablo 3's core character attributes are also changing and character stats will be displayed directly on the inventory UI, among "a number of other large systems changes."

"There’s a lot of work left to be done, though. We’re constantly tuning and making balance changes; it’s a massive task," concluded Wilson.

Diablo 3 isn't just around the corner quite yet then. What do you make of this latest development? Do you agree with these tweaks? Let us know in the comments section below!
