Modern Warfare 3 is still riding high following it's record-breaking November launch, but as well as the nine months of planned MW3 DLC, the developers of the latest Call of Duty may well be turning their attentions to a next-generation shooter for the franchise's tenth core outing in 2013.

Following speculation yesterday that Sledgehammer Games will again assist in the development of Call of Duty 10/Modern Warfare 4, original studio Infinity Ward has posted a vacancy for a Senior Animator which could be the clearest sign yet that Call of Duty is headed to next-gen platforms.

Infinity Ward is "seeking a Senior Animator, preferably with experience in game development and an interest in working with next-generation technologies," according to the ad.

In 2012, Treyarch is widely expected to continue the Call of Duty pattern of development set down by Activision to bring us another spin-off, which could be Black Ops 2 or CoD: Iron Wolf.

Then, if recent tradition is followed, it'll be up to Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward to deliver in November 2013 with what could be another Modern Warfare title. Or, potentially Activision will revert to it's original plan of having three studios (plus Beachhead) working full time on the franchise.

Regardless, wider analysis points towards new console hardware potentially launching by the end of 2013 - definitely from Nintendo, and at least expected from Microsoft.

Activision and Microsoft have a particularly close relationship for a third-party publisher and platform holder respectively, with the former continuing to grant the latter exclusivity periods for Call of Duty DLC.

Infinity Ward previously developed a next-gen launch title for Microsoft in Call of Duty 2, which arrived with the Xbox 360.

Will an Infinity Ward-developed Call of Duty go next-gen in 2013? Have your say below!
