Ubisoft and Electronic Arts both have 'target boxes' for Microsoft's planned Xbox 360 successor, according to a new rumour. The units are intended to recreate the planned specifications of the next Xbox console.

The report's source suggests that recently-rumoured AMD GPU architecture could be accurate.

The report claims that devkits could reach Ubisoft before the end of the year, and that the next Xbox will arrive by late 2012 - although Halo 4 is set to light up the Xbox 360 then.

It's also claimed that a major Sony Worldwide Studios developer is now working on software purely for next-gen.

Treat all this as rumour for the time being - the next Xbox could be revealed at CES in January according to previous rumours.
