Skyrim's PS3 Framerate Issues Related To Game Save Size

Skyrim eventually unplayable on PS3 say reports.

Skyrim has a bug on PS3 that increases lag as your save game file increases in size, according to posters on the Bethesda forums.
It's claimed that once a game save file gets above around 6MB the framerate issues begin, and get increasingly problematic until the game becomes impossible to play.
As a rough estimate of how long you'd have to play for until the bug pops up - a current NowGamer Skyrim game save on PS3 is around 4MB after 10 hours.
There appears to be no workaround at present, bar restarting the game, but Bethesda announced yesterday that it is working on another patch for all versions of Skyrim.
Similar issues were also present in Bethesda titles Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
