Expect the unexpected from the Animus environments in Assassin's Creed Revelations

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood ended with Desmond trapped in the Black Room of the Animus, an environment that will be explored further in Revelations. The premise of the Black Room enables Ubisoft to explore as-yet-unseen environments for the Assassin's Creed universe according to lead game designer Alexandre Breault. "For Desmond’s part, an important element of the gameplay will be him in the Animus and him trying to find a way out of the Animus cyber-world in the Black Room," Breault told NowGamer. "That’s providing us with a totally new setting. I can’t say what exactly that will be, but I can tell you that, since it’s all in the Animus, it gives us a freedom that we wouldn’t otherwise have."
Will it be like a city from Tron? Present day? A side-scrolling 8-bit platformer? Ubisoft isn't saying. Yet.
"It’s an opportunity to do something really interesting and introduce gameplay that could only be done in this fantasy environment. We’re taking this chance to create something totally new that will really surprise the player," Breault added.
