Molyneux Doesn’t ‘Give A Damn’ About Console Power
Peter Molyneux and 22Cans want to revolutionise gaming. Speaking exclusively to NowGamer, 22Cans founder and veteran game developer Peter Molynuex has explained how his studios first game, Curiosity, is the first step on the road to revolutionising gaming as we know it.
For Molynuex, the future of the games industry doesn’t necessarily rely on consoles becoming more and more powerful.
“Personally, I don’t give a damn about the speed of a console, the graphic output or any of that,” explained Molyneux. “It doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. All I care about is a game that can fit into my current life. I don’t want to install things or set things up. I just want to play and be connected to everything else at the same time.”
“At the moment, I think consoles are in their own little hermetic environment,” continued Molynuex. “I still love them, I’ll still play the big games. I’ll still buy the next version of Xbox and Playstation and play shooters on it. But will it be my main gaming platform as it was before? No, it won’t.”
“Our mission is to revolutionise”, explained Molyneux. “The gaming industry has more mechanics, devices and innovations and it needs to get used to them. We need games that use these devices, games that use multiple devices, ones that use co-operation, and bring people together. We need games that stay with you forever. However, none of that has been captured in one experience. So we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Molyneux went on to explain that the introduction of new hardware would help realise this vision, but it will be how we integrate games into our digital lives that could have the biggest impact.
