Dark Souls 2: ‘No Intent’ For Next-Gen Version
When Dark Souls 2 was originally revealed, there was much chatter over the graphics of the game and it’s potential next-gen compatibility.
With a new engine and a focus on building a robust game, many believed From Software would be aiming to release Dark Souls 2 on PS4 and the Xbox 720.
That won’t be happening.
Dark Souls 2 co-director Yui Tanimura chatted to us about Dark Souls 2, and even about how it won’t be coming to next-gen.
“We understand that next-gen is coming up,” said Tanimura, “and it’d be a lie to say we didn’t consider it at all, but right now there’s no intent to have Dark Souls on next-gen at this point.
“We feel the potential for current gen is still there and we want to deliver it to current gen consoles.”
So what about this new engine for Dark Souls 2? If it’s not targetting next-gen, what are its benefits?
“One of the reasons we implemented a new engine was to cater for that drop in framerate in Dark Souls 1, so again for this title we’re hoping users don’t have to worry about that issue. We think the new engine will help to solve that.”
Yui Tanimura spoke to us about a number of Dark Souls 2 subjects, from its difficulty to how multiplayer will work. Read it all in our Dark Souls 2 interview.
