Want to know how to play the guitar? Made a New Year’s resolution to finally pick up that guitar and learn to play? Or are you just like me, and fail to get ‘over the hump’ that comes with self-teaching an instrument?

Over the next few weeks I’ll be playing Ubisoft’s Rocksmith in a bid to finally overcome my crippling resistance to self-improvement. But first, an intro…

Rocksmith – according to Ubisoft – is intended to teach people how to play the guitar by casting off the plastic toys of Rock Band and Guitar Hero in favour of the real thing.

By connecting your guitar to a PS3 or Xbox 360 through a special USB cable, Rocksmith’s intuitive difficulty, plethora of educative mini-games and tailored learning curve will give you the practice and skills to learn to rock. In theory, anyway.

And for the record, I’ve been an on-again off-again budding guitarist for about 10 years now, intermittently dusting off my guitar, replaying the main chords I’ve somehow managed to lodge into a forgotten part of my brain only to… well, give up.

So, join me on this quest – because it is an epic adventure, be sure of that – as I use Rocksmith to try and teach myself how to play the guitar.
