In the clip, Goyer exclaims, “We were approaching it – in some ways – as a big event movie. Even though it’s a first-person shooter, it’s got to be sophisticated, it’s got to be funny, it’s got to be challenging, and it’s got to have twists and turns.”
“In the case of Black Ops 2″, Goyer continues, “I would argue that the tory is better than most movies that are being made.”

[05/07/12] Black Ops 2: Nuketown 2025 Will Feature Hidden Easter Eggs, Says Treyarch
Treyarch’s Dan Bunting discussed Nuketown 2025 in a studio podcast, saying that hidden easter eggs and secrets are “in the genetic code of Treyarch, it’s in our blood”. Bunting promises that there will be many secrets in the Black Ops 2 version of Nuketown.
He also explains why the original Nuketown was so popular. “I think it’s a little bit of all of those ‘variables’. It was sort of the perfect storm of, just, magic – all the things that came together and made it happen. It brought out what’s best of Call of Duty multiplayer which is that high-intensity, fast-paced action.” Thanks to MP1st for the find!

[25/06/12] Black Ops 2: New Screens Show Guns, Decals, Yemen Mission
Treyarch revealed a duo of Black Ops 2 screens, showing off a Strike Force mission set in Yemen. The screens aren’t the most exciting, but they do confirm that the Secret Service will be playable in Strike Force missions.
The second shot isn’t that interesting either, but if you look closely at the chap’s gun, you’ll see a modified S.O.G. logo, which could hint at the return of custom decals in Strike Force and in multiplayer.
Treyarch did hint at custom load outs in Strike Force missions previously, but we’re yet to hear more about them.
[25/06/12] Black Ops 2’s multiple ‘endings’ are similar to Mass Effect 3 (Not really endings).
NowGamer spoke with Treyarch’s director of communications John Rafacz this week, and he confirmed that Black Ops 2’s multiple endings aren’t really endings, but different ‘geo-political wrappers’.
What does that mean? Allow Rafacz to explain, “Those success and failures (in Strike Force missions) are catalogued so that – at the conclusion of your single player experience – if you have succeeded at all your Strike Force levels, you will have a different geo-political ‘wrapper’ around the conclusion of your game.”
“This wrapper would be different than the one I would have seen if I played through and failed all of my Strike Force missions,” Rafacz continued, “Now, succeed or fail, if you want to go back and replay them, or choose different Strike Force missions, you can do that.
We then asked what Rafacz meant by geo-politcal wrappers, and suggested that they weren’t multiple endings at all.
Rafacz replied, “Well, you know, it’s still in development. So it’s too early to kind of talk about how many endings there are, but it’s safe to say that throughout the course of the campaign, you will have the opportunity to play a handful of Strike Force levels.”
“I think the important thing here – and you touched on this – is that it’s the geo-political wrapper,” Rafacz explained, “We will all share that same story, we are playing that same gift, we just get different colour wrapping paper.”
Geo-political wrapper sounds dangerously like the different coloured explosions that changed up Mass Effect 3’s endings, and by ‘changed up’ we mean, ‘didn’t really change much at all’.
[20/06/12] Call Of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified on PS Vita has a new story and Spec Ops mode.

Here’s the descriptor:
“Before the future could be won, history had to be written. Exposing that story exclusively on PlayStation Vita, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified explores original fiction in the Call of Duty Black Ops universe with an all-new campaign of Special Ops missions.”
“Optimized for gamers on-the-go, Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified delivers the most intense handheld Call of Duty experience to date, including both Special Ops Story mode and Multiplayer combat tailored for the PS Vita.”
So a new campaign basically. We’ll have more on Black Ops Declassified as it happens.
[18/06/12] Black Ops 2 Zombie modes get new info as Treyarch hints at 4v4 play, Theatre Mode & Wager Matches
Vice president of production at Activision, Daniel Suarez let some new Black Ops 2 Zombies information slip this week, speaking to BebopVox.
Suarez explained, “This year Treyarch has moved that over to the multiplayer technology. That offers us a lot more opportunities; a lot more players to play with, more zombies and changing the way the game modes work for zombies.”
“Traditionally zombies is a four-player co-op mode – we’re stll going to have that this time around, but in addition to that we’re going to offer up new opportunities to play in new way. Imagine you and your four friends versus me and my four friends versus a load of zombies.”
[18/06/12] Black Ops 2 to get dedicated servers for PC, Treyarch confirms
Treyarch’s director of technology Cesar Statsny confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will get dedicated servers on PC. Statsny confirmed the feature over Twitter, but didn’t mention if Black Ops 2 would take the ‘rent a server’ route adopted by Battlefield 3. More as it happens.

[03/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 zombies gets its first piece of promo art
OK, so this piece of art doesn’t exactly say that it’s zombies-related, but it follows the same art style used by Treyarch in previous versions of zombies, and the woman is clearly holding up a zombie head. Look ace doesn’t it? But who is she?
Here’s the art in full:
Pretty neat huh?
[03/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 could re-enact the SAS 1980 Iranian Embassy siege rescue
Don’t forget that Black Ops 2 takes place in the 1980s and 2025, and that the Iranian Embassy siege has been rumoured in regards to Black Ops 2 as far back as early 2011. The latest Black Ops 2 documentary trailer shows live-action footage of the actual SAS rescue attempt, re-igniting the rumour once more.
[03/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 gets a future tech documentary trailer
Another new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, this time showing off some real-world inspiration for the game’s plot, such as the advancement of military tech today, and what could happen if someone hacks into the system and hijacks it.
There are many nods to what we might be able to expect in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, such as stealth drones, exoskeleton suit, laser piercing systems, rail guns, quadrotors and more. It’s pretty creepy, so watch it above.
[02/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is officially revealed, first trailer lights up internet
Well folks, here it is – the official Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal trailer. Watch it above. Shortly after the trailer launched, Activision’s inside man One of Swords posted a massive blog that spills tons of new information on Black Ops 2. Read the One of Swords post here.
Here’s a rundown of what the trailer and the One of Swords blog post confirm:
- Frank Woods will return
- The campaign takes place in both the 1980s and 2025
- Alex Mason is the star of the 80s segments, while his son David is the future protagonist
- America’s unmanned drone army has been hijacked by new villain Raul Menendez. His rise to becoming a villain will be charted in both the 1980s and 2025 missions
- Raul Menendez has a stronghold in the Middle East, and he can be seen meeting with a mysterious man in the 1980s arc.
- In the 2025 arc, China has become the dominant superpower, and has control over 95 per cent of Earth’s natural resources. This plunges the world into a new Cold War.
- David Mason must escort the President out of Los Angeles in the mission you see in the trailer.
- Mason and Woods’ old unit S.O.G. will return, and David Mason is now a part of them in 2025.
- The SAS will return, and in the trailer they are seen battling through a Singapore dockyard
- Campaign missions take place in sandbox environments instead of corridors, and you can make moral choices that change up your progression through the plot. Objectives can be tackled as you see fit, and there could even be multiple endings.
- Strike Force Operations is a new way of tackling story missions. You can jump into any soldier on the battlefield, control a quadrotor or drone to provide air support or view the map from a top-down perspective like an RTS in Overwatch mode.
- Future tech so far includes wrist computers, x-ray scanners, CLAW mech tanks, quadrotor drones, advanced UAVs, tilt-jets, stealth bombers, guns with huge attachments rails and more.
- Handguns now have QR codes on them
- There is a horseback chase in the 1980s section, taking place in the Middle East. Treyarch had to mocap horses to make it look authentic.
- Black Ops 2 will support DX11 on PC, and the console versions have undergone a visual overhaul
- Multiplayer has been scrapped right down to the core fundamentals and has been rebuilt to make it new and fresh. Only two old perks are rumoured to return.
- Zombies mode will return, but will be significantly expanded
[01/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer see Los Angeles under attack
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer hasn’t gone live yet, but we can see a preview of it over at the official Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 revealsite.
The image shows a chopper swooping over an American city, as confirmed by the U.S. cop car lining up along the freeway below. There is also a road sign that says ‘evacuate’.
Are Americans fleeing from the threat of the 21st century cold war, as confirmed earlier today? The city could be downtown Los Angeles, suggested by the palm trees lining the freeway, and as hinted by a series of map coordinates teased on the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 site, that point to downtown LA.
What do you think?
[01/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 box art revealed
As part of the earlier-than-scheduled Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal, Activision has lifted the lid off the official Black Ops 2 box art. Here it is.
[01/05/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 focuses on a “21st Century Cold War”, official site goes live!
Ahead of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 worldwide reveal, the officialCall of Duty website has changed, complete with a Black Ops 2 plot synopsis, screens and pre-order details.
The synopsis reads: “Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.”
Our predicition that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 would be set in the near-future was bang on the money.
[01/05/12] First in-game screenshots of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 leaked on Japanese website
Japanese website Doope seemingly leaks the first in-game screenshots of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2. This duo certainly look reliable, however one of the screenshots shows two Quadrotors, a section of which matches up with the previous days teased image shown on the official teaser website. See both screenshots here.
[30/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 teaser image hints at rockets, shuttle craft?
Just a day before the worldwide reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the official Call of Duty website has been updated with a brand new teaser image, this time showing off what appears to be part of a space launch pad, rocket, or shuttle craft. In short, we’re not sure, but the image will be revealed in full later tonight. Stay tuned.
[29/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 quadrotor and UAV image surfaces
Over at the official Call of Duty website, another new image has surfaced, this time of a quadrotor blade and a UAV vehicle. The Quadrotor image once again implies a near-future setting. Could this new toy be a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 killstreak reward?
[28/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal preaches that the future is closer than you think.
This new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal started out as a text crawl that read, “The future is not as far off as most people think. We’re not ready for it”, and quickly changed to a video that shows a sound wave and a man repeating the same line.
Check out the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 video here to hear the audio in full.
[27/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will throw unseen enemies at you
Another reveal over at the offical Call of Duty website. This time, an animated .GIF that shows the creepy message above, suggesting that there will be a ton of deception, espionage and mystery surrounding the campaign. What could it all mean?
[27/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 teaser coordinates now point to E3 2012
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 coordinates over at the official Call of Duty site have changed today, and now point to a street in Los Angeles. This street houses the LA Convention Center – home to the E3 conference, and the Staples Center.
The NBA baskeball playoffs will take place at the Staples Center next Tuesday 1st May, and there will be a halftime trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 aired on American television network TNT.
So the question remains: Do these coordinates point to the 1st May Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal, or something big at E3?
[26/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 numbers reveal goes live, hints at China setting
Well all know that Treyarch has a thing for numbers (MASON!), but the third reveal panel on the official Call of Duty site shows a series of blinking numbers.
These are coordinates that, depending on which string of numbers you use – there are a few blinking sets – you will come up with a few locations, which could be where the game is set.
China is first up, according to Call of Duty forum poster Machines650Nyima, Nagqu, Xizang in Tibet to be exact.
Could the near future setting of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 see a world where China has risen to be the dominant super power, or is that too ‘Homefront’?
Twitter user @Telixion discovered that the other coordinates point to America, Russia, and somewhere in both the Pacific and Mediterranean sea.
With Call of Duty’s campaigns generally hopping around the globe, this could hint as some of the countries the story will span.
[26/04/12] Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Quadrotor in-game images leaked, near future setting seems on the money.
Over at MP1st, a batch of supposedly in-game screens of the Quadrotor drone were revealed. The screens were reportedly used by special effects team Reel EFX to help them build the drone used in the first Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 teaser video. Hit the link to watch it.
There are more images below, one of which shows a soldier on the ground and a futuristic chopper that seems to confirm the rumoured near-future setting for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Thanks to MP1st and Reel EFX for the screens.
[26/04/12] Call of Duty.com Tacitus logo is revealed. Explains nothing
On the night of the 25th of April, the second reveal drop over at Call of Duty.com revealed a logo that reads Tacitus, similar to t-shirt the presenter was wearing in the Quadrotor video. The jury is still out on what this means, but check back down this page for more clues. We’re keeping our eye on this one.
[25/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 “Tacitus” teasers point to mysterious website
The first Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal showed a member of FPS Russia playing around with an armed military drone, while wearing a t-shirt that read “Tacitus”. The same image is the basis for Treyarch’s second reveal, which is due any day now.
“Tacitus” is the name of a Roman historian, and has links to a solar eclipse. An eclipse is also due on the same day Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is due to launch – 13/11/12.
There was even a photo of a promotional Call of Duty stand spotted for Treyarch’s new game spotted in Gamestop. The world Eclipse is all over it. Check out the stand photo here.
But, if you head over to the official tacitus.com, an odd website appears that features a logo that looks like a 3D version of the Treyarch logo, as well as a weird blurb about futuristic technology and research.
As Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is rumoured to be set in the near future, Tacitus could be a fictional company or military contractor that features in the game.
The website used to belong to a real company called Tacitus, but the company’s CEO move to a company called Sapian last year. Sapian also happens to be the marketing company that looked after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s marketing last year.
So it seems that the Tacitus website has been freed up to make way for a fictional in-game company.
[25/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will break sales records, says EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich
Concerns have been mounting that the Call of Duty series is running out of steam, according to reports that Modern Warfare 3 has sold far less than Black Ops did this time last year.
However, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich told us that Call of Duty is “an incredibly stable franchise”, and its decline has been ‘blown out of proportion’
Divnich continued, “It is common to see well anticipated franchises frontload their sales into their initial launch period. Franchises including, Gears of War, Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Fallout, and many others have shown long tail sales decline, despite the initial launch period producing growth,” Divnich explained.
“Even Call of Duty: Black Ops during most months post-holiday produced sales below Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This phenomenon isn’t exclusive to Call of Duty. I believe some analysts have blown this out of proportion due to the lack of their own proper due diligence.”
[24/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 box art photo leaks, confirms release date
An amateur photo, supposedly of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 cover art, leaked online, confirming that Treyarch’s shooter will indeed be the sequel to Black Ops, and that it will launch on 13th November 2012.
The image appears a tad out of focus, and the crap lighting doesn’t help, but the image – of a soldier brandishing a handgun and knife – also appears on the official Call of Duty Twitter feed.
[24/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 flying drone video teases near-future setting
Over at the official Call of Duty website, a series of teasers appeared online to build up to the 1st May reveal. The first of these teasers was a YouTube clip of Russian website FPS Russia playing around with a futuristic military drone, armed with a machine gun. Watch it, it’s cool.
The chap blows up mannequins and detonates the device, blowing up a car, while stating that the technology is futuristic. The presenter thanks the makers of Call of Duty for sponsoring the video and is also wearing a t-shirt that reads “Tacitus”, which is a clue as to what Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is about.
[23/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 gets more multiplayer perk, mode & knife rumours
An unexpected Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 poster image was leaked online over at gaming site MP1st, showing off the 13th November release date, and came complete with a slew of rumoured multiplayer features.
First up is a new Black Ops 2 multiplayer mode called Escort, which tasks teams with protecting a VIP across three flag points. Another new mode is rumoured to be Split Spawn, which has teams spawning from a helicopter and rushing to capture points on each map.
The final alleged mode is Equalizer, in which deaths result in players respawning on the opposing team. The perk list is rumoured to include Spy, Escape Artist, Audiophile, Defuser, Juggernaut, Diver, Pilot, Technician, Bladesman, Consciousness, Focus and Deep Impact.
Knives are also rumoured to have undergone an overhaul, meaning they will have their own melee slot in the load out menu. This will let you swap between default, tactical, throwing or ballistic knives on the fly, as well as tomahawks and the new tactical hammer weapon.
[23/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be officially unveiled 1st May 2012

[19/04/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 poster leaks, confirms May reveal
An unnamed source snapped a photo of a Call of Duty 9 poster, together with a 2nd of May date and the words “Return for debriefing’ on the front. The image in the background shows a man holding a pistol, which is identical to the leaked Black Ops 2 box art and the image currently used on the Call of Duty Twitter feed.
[28/03/12] Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 multiplayer mode, perks, Strike Package and prestige details ‘leak’ on a forum
More forum leaks from unnamed sources here, this time in the form ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 2 multiplayer perks, modes and prestige capinformation. The first game mode is Escort, which has been leaked by more sources since.
Escort allegedly sees a player being marked as a VIP, then a team fighting to escort that player to one of three safe zones, while the other team tries to kill the VIP.
Drop Zone and Kill Confirmed modes are rumoured to be returning from Modern Warfare 3, as will the pointstreak system, which will now have a larger emphasis on objectives.
For support classes, bomb plants are worth two points, neutral flags are worth one point, enemy flags are worth two points, flag assist capture is worth one, a capture is worth two and so on.
Specialist classes will get a new perk every two kills this time. There is also a new pointstreak reward that gives you a special scope that lets you see through walls, which again, reinforces the rumoured near-future setting.
First prestige will be available at level 50, with the prestige cap increasing each time you start over. The 15th and final prestige is maxed out at level 90.
There is a ton of additional info from this leak over at our full news story here.

Shortly before he left Infinity Ward, NowGamer interviewed Rob Bowling on the success of MW3 and his opinion on what Treyarch will have to do with Black Ops 2 to top his studio’s game in November.
Bowling said, “I think every year, we have that challenge of looking at what the previous Call of Duty has done, and trying to learn from that and better our own game because of it. We do the same thing with Treyarch games, and I hope that they do the same thing with our games.”

“From what we’ve seen the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovation to the franchise. I could not be more excited.”
