BioShock Infinite Multiplayer In The Works At BioShock 2 Dev – Rumour
BioShock Infinite could be getting a multiplayer mode courtesy of BioShock 2’s multiplayer developer Digital Extremes, if a couple of new vacancies at the Canadian studio are anything to go by.
“We are deeply absorbed in the development of yet another super secret, hugely anticipated, and very prestigious AAA 1st person shooter, and you could join our team and be involved!” reads one ad.
As pointed out on Digital Extremes’ bio, the studio created “the entire multiplayer portion of Bioshock 2” for 2K, the first game in the series to feature an online component.
The ad variously describes the game as “super secret”, “hugely anticipated” and “very prestigious” – the last two certainly fit with BioShock Infinite, while the multiplayer mode has remained a secret up until now. Kind of.
Back in August, a report claimed that two multiplayer modes were developed and cancelled for BioShock Infinite as the game hit development troubles.
Given Digital Extremes’ prior work on the franchise and the almost contradictory descriptions of the project, it seems the Canadian developer has about three months to get multiplayer right for BioShock Infinite before its release date of 26 February 2013.
We’ve asked 2K for comment.
